Wild Turkey Pictures -
picture, pictures
While males are large and bright in color, pale and dull coloration protects the hen and the brood in the grass. There are usually from 4 to 17 eggs in the nest; the hen hatches them for about a month. The chicks are able to follow the mother after 4-5 hours after hatching. They can feed themselves within 24 hours, but stay with the mother for 10-12 months. Adult birds have little predators, except humans, because they are the largest birds in their natural habitats, but chicks and eggs often become a prey for foxes, coyotes, raccoons, snakes, eagles, owls and domestic cats. They are ground-dwelling birds, and it’s easy for predators to find a nest with eggs or with chicks when the hen is away feeding.
